I was lucky enough to attend Idea Shop last night. This is a P.D. session put on by a group of Teacher-Librarians, as well as colleagues who work at Media Services and the Cataloguing Centre. It was great to put faces to all the names I have seen & heard throughout my first few months in the library. I feel so lucky to be able to share with you some of the resources that they shared with me last night. Idea Shop focused on Diversity, Equity & Social Justice. I received numerous lists of books and online resources that I have asked permission to share with you. You will notice that there is now a new tab for Resources by Theme. There you will find resource lists for videos available on Learn 360 that will help us teach to the themes of Diversity, Equity & Social Justice. I hope to add many thematic lists on this page over time. You will also find that I put a link on this page to the list of Earth Day resources I posted on the conference earlier this week. Finally, I did add a few new media streaming links: Solving for X and Green TV. Green TV is a collection of videos with an environmental focus. Solving for X is best described by the video link below. Enjoy!

Today was a busy day for sure. I was so happy that many of the staff were able to attend the time we had to play around with Google Docs. In chatting with a few of you, I was inspired to come home and add more to the site. Greg reminded me of a great presentation tool called Prezi. I remember Gary using it at a staff meeting. It is a very unique & fun way to present information. I added a link under "Lesson Planning & P.D.", as well as a sample. I also added a link to a program called Storybird in the "Online for Students" section. This is a great program that allows students to choose pieces of art & write a story based on the artwork. Very fun! I added a video link under the Digital Literacy section that deals with Facebook privacy too. Lastly, I leave you with the following video, which makes you think, what if the rules of Social Media slipped into daily life. Here we go! I am excited to introduce to you a new staff website that will hopefully support you in your teaching & learning. I have learned so much this year through the Tech.Coach program that I need to share, but when is there time??? I've tried to put resources, tips & ideas on the conference, but they can be difficult to locate when you need them. Well, I think I've found the solution. By creating this website, I can update you on new information & give you a place to go to explore programs or look for new ideas for your programming. I'm hoping that this will be one stop shopping for all your tech. & library needs. I am in no way, shape or form an expert on anything "tech" related. I just want to share what I have learned & hopefully learn more. Thanks for visiting! I hope you find it useful. Melissa Enjoy a little IT Crowd below...aren't we lucky this isn't our Help Desk! |
